Same frames, new cords
The owners of Wharf Terrace had a quote for plastic windows and asked us for a second opinion. Ten of the eleven sashes were sound apart from the bottom rails, which had sat in rainwater for a hundred years.
We took the sashes out one floor at a time, so the house was never open for more than a day. In the workshop we cut back the rot, spliced in Accoya (it doesn’t rot) and painted them with linseed oil paint, which moves with the wood instead of cracking.
Back in
New cotton cords, the pulleys freed and oiled, the weights balanced so every sash stays where you leave it, and brush seals in new beads. The windows are quieter than the plastic ones would have been, and they’ll outlast them.
