Mud, dogs and four pairs of boots for every person: the back door at Hallow Farm needed a room that could take it.
The bench is a single oak board, oiled so the mud wipes off. The cubbies underneath are open at the back so boots can dry, and sized for wellingtons, which turn out to be bigger than you think. Above, tongue-and-groove boards up to the peg rail, painted a grey that hides the splashes.
