Looking after an oiled table

Hardwax oil is easy to live with. A cloth, a little oil once a year and a few things to avoid.

We finish tables in hardwax oil because it soaks into the wood rather than sitting on top of it. It looks like wood, feels like wood and can be mended at home.

Every day

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry it. Avoid sprays with bleach or alcohol; they take the oil out.

Once a year

Give the top a light rub with a fine pad, wipe off the dust and put on a thin coat of the same oil with a lint-free cloth. Wipe off what hasn’t soaked in after twenty minutes. That’s it.

Rings and marks

A white ring from a hot mug usually comes out with a warm iron over a tea towel, a few seconds at a time. Anything worse, send us a photo.
